O Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências Biológicas – Biofísica foi criado em 1963, sendo um dos primeiros a ser credenciado pelo MEC e foi responsável pela emissão do primeiro título de Doutor da UFRJ. O Programa possui nota 7 na CAPES e tem por objetivo a formação de profissionais altamente qualificados que possam atuar na comunidade científica como docentes/pesquisadores criativos e independentes. As dissertações de Mestrado e teses de Doutorado constituem trabalhos originais baseados no desenvolvimento de projetos de pesquisa científica.
